About the SHRF
PRIMARY AIM: To preserve, curate and make accessible to the public, the heritage of Rolls-Royce and Bentley in Australia.
In all his designs Sir Henry Royce (1863-1933) demonstrated an attention to detail never previously seen in the automotive and aeronautical worlds. His motto was his engineering standard: Quidvis recte factum quamvis humile præclarum.
Background
History
The Sir Henry Royce Foundation was established by Deed in 1996 and has as its aim the curation and promotion of the history and culture of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars, marine, aero and other engines and motors in Australia.
Objectives
The Charitable Objectives of the Foundation promote the advancement of the science and technology of mechanical engineering for the public benefit and the advancement of education, including: making available for study and research purposes the corpus of the published and unpublished work of Sir Henry Royce, The Honourable Charles Stuart Rolls and Walter Owen Bentley and by promoting and providing facilities for such study and research and for the study of the history and development of the pursuit of excellence in the science of mechanical engineering.
Education
Artefacts, such as motor cars, aeronautical and marine engines and other products are conserved, preserved and displayed at the four venues of The Foundation and are used for education and information. These venues are; Bill Allsep House and The Lionel Gell School of Instruction in Melbourne, Victoria; The Sir Henry Royce Foundation Canberra Showroom ACT; and The Sir Henry Royce Foundation Coolum Showroom QLD. Examples of motor cars, marine and aeronautical engines and other ancillary items are on display to the public at these venues. The Foundation is particularly committed to supporting the educational and training pursuits of the next generations of skilled engineers. Supporting pathways being undertaken by providing scholarships, awards and recognition, contacts and networks.
